Mike Merkelbach is a highly accomplished and dedicated attorney in the patent practice group with an exceptional track record in the field of intellectual property.  Prior to attending law school, Mike served in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Machinist’s Mate for eleven years and was a Production Supervisor for Kaiser Aluminum for two years.  As a Navy nuclear Operator, Mike received extensive training in Reactor theory, thermodynamics, electrical theory, mechanical theory, primary and secondary chemistry control, radiological material controls, Quality Assurance control, as well as planning, supervising, and performing maintenance on machinery ranging from pumps to steam turbines.  Mike used the skills and expertise he learned from the Navy to quickly become an integral shift supervisor for the production of heat-treated aluminum used by Boeing, Airbus, and Apple.

As an attorney, Mike continues to use his experiences, skills, and expertise to better understand the specific needs and desires of his clients in order to provide a comprehensive and cost-effective intellectual property protection plan.  Mike collaborates closely with inventors, startups, and established companies to draft high-quality patent applications and navigate the complex patent prosecution process. 

Over the years, Mike has honed his skills and developed an extensive knowledge base in various industry sectors, including electronics, software, and mechanical engineering. Mike’s diligence, strategic thinking, and ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner consistently results in his clients receiving the patent protection they need.

Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf, playing guitar, spending time with his family and friends, and watching as many Dodger games as he can.
