Spokane, Washington – Aug. 10, 2015 – Lee & Hayes, PLLC, an industry-leading intellectual property law firm, has hired chemical and life sciences patent attorney Sally P. Teng, Ph.D., as part of its multi-office chemical and life sciences industry group. Dr. Teng brings more than 15 years’ of experience in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical areas. Dr. Teng is based in the Washington D.C.-metro office and joins a growing team of 11 life sciences attorneys.

Dr. Teng’s practice includes counseling; patent validity analyses; due diligence analyses; freedom­to­operate analyses; handling reexamination proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and opposition proceedings before international patent offices; and patent litigation, including providing technical analysis and discovery support, working with expert witnesses, performing analysis of validity and infringement issues and motion practice.

Dr. Teng has represented chemical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, universities and nonprofit clients in connection with the procurement of intellectual property directed to life science technologies, including recombinant DNA, transgenic animals and plants, chemicals, bone and tissue transplantation, therapeutic drugs, delivery of therapeutic agents, vaccines, diagnostic assays, antibodies and medical devices.

Dr. Teng received her B.A. in chemistry from Wellesley College and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Yale University. She conducted her doctoral research in biophysical chemistry, investigating the photochemistry of DNA and drug­DNA interaction. Following graduation from Yale, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in molecular neurobiology, characterizing Growth Associated Protein 43 (GAP­43) binding proteins. She received her J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.

Dr. Teng’s prior posts include as senior managing associate then counsel with Dentons in Washington D.C.; an associate with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP in D.C.; a patent agent and associate in the D.C. office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP; and a patent examiner with the biotechnology group of the USPTO in Arlington, Virginia.
