Patent Attorney/Agent - Rochester, New York

Patent Attorney or Patent Agent (Rochester)

Lee & Hayes is a leading national IP law firm at the intersection of business, law, and technology.  We are currently seeking a Patent Attorney or Patent Agent to work out of our Rochester, New York office.  This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a dynamic team in our highly-regarded and growing office in beautiful Upstate New York. 

Primary responsibilities for this position will include preparing and prosecuting patent applications across a variety of technology areas, with a focus on computer-implemented methods in insurance, financial technologies and e-commerce, medical devices, autonomous vehicles, heavy machinery, and optics.  Responsibilities may also include managing foreign prosecution and rendering opinions to clients.  The position requires extensive interaction with in-house attorneys, inventors, and firm attorneys.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Successful candidates will have a USPTO registration number, and three or more years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.  Expertise in software applications, machine learning, artificial intelligence, augmented/virtual reality, and/or optics is highly desired.  Seeking candidates with degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Ideal candidates must speak and write fluent Mandarin, are accurate, detailed, organized, articulate, service-oriented and flexible. Prior experience as a legal assistant and/or paralegal is beneficial and experience in intellectual property is a plus.  Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft® Office, are required.  Responsibilities of this position include assisting attorneys in our Asia practice group with:

  • Preparing and filing patent applications, patent responses and other documents with the patent offices
  • General time/work management
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Administrative and clerical support

  • Schedule meetings using Outlook
  • AA or BA/BS degree preferred

  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment
