Shirley brings research and development and a business background to her current practice of patent prosecution.
Her technical expertise resides in computer software and hardware, aerospace technologies, business methods, mechanical technologies, telecommunications, semiconductor technologies, and chemical polymers. Shirley also has work experience in bioinformatics, phylogenetics, and veterinary pharmaceuticals. She is a team leader at Lee & Hayes, where her practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution (domestic and international).
Prior to practicing law, Shirley worked for The Procter and Gamble Company where she is an inventor on several U.S. utility patents. She worked on medical devices, pulp and paper technologies, and material development (US, Europe, and Canada).
Shirley offers support to members of the community by providing pro bono services through SCORE and Sirti.
Presentations
Shirley taught “Intellectual Property Overview” at Washington State University as part of the Cougar Undergraduate Research Experience in 2011.
She presented "A Year in Review—Patent Law" for The Eastern Washington Intellectual Property Institute, sponsored by the WSBA Intellectual Property Section in 2008 and 2010.
Shirley has also presented: “Case Law Review” at Lee & Hayes 2010, “Interviewing Tips” at Gonzaga University School of Law 2009, “Patent Law Review” for The Boeing Company 2009, and “How to Overcome Rejections from the PTO” at Lee & Hayes 2008.
Shirley has presented at the University of Cincinnati, School of Engineering and represented the University of Dayton School of Law at the Inventor's Council of Dayton and at the Metro Law School Fair.
