Kasey draws on several years of work as a computer hardware and software engineer for major international computer and high-technology corporations, namely IBM and Microsoft.
For over 15 years, the primary focus of his law career has been on patent portfolio strategies and development. Before Lee & Hayes, Kasey was an associate with Kolisch Hartwell in Portland, Oregon. In his law career, he has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in a wide range of computer-related fields including: cryptography, software antipiracy, digital communication networks, communication protocols, databases, user interfaces, computer software and hardware, printers, medical apparatus such as implantable cardiac devices, electronic and Internet commerce devices and methods, and various Internet-related technologies.
Kasey's law career highlights include being a former officer of the Computer & Internet Law Section of the Oregon State Bar, co-author and presenter of The Law of the Internet of Oregon, presenter to the Oregon Association of Legal Secretaries on use of the Internet in the practice of law, and author and presenter of What's in a Name-bigbucks.com to the Computer & Internet Law Section of the Oregon State Bar.
Currently, Kasey is a member of the Washington State Patent Law Association (WSPLA) and the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Also, he is an advisor to the management core group of the Law Practice Management Section of the American Bar Association (ABA). At Lee & Hayes, Kasey is the vice-chair of the firm's Patent Practice, Director of Patent Portfolio Development, and the chair of the Patent-Practice Hiring Committee.
In addition to his patent practice, Kasey was a performer, host, trainer, and business-owner of an improvisational comedy theater, which produced competitive shows which were appropriate for all ages. As part of this endeavor, Kasey performed in all parts of the country, trained hundreds of comedians, and led hundreds of team-building seminars and training sessions.
