With an expertise in biotechnology, Benjamin advises clients on a wide variety of patent law issues including the drafting and prosecution of patent applications. He also counsels clients in the areas of computer software, business methods, and mechanical devices.
Prior to joining Lee & Hayes, Benjamin served as a Legal Intern for the USPTO, Intellectual Ventures, Apex Juris, and Nakamura & Partners in Tokyo. These experiences provided a wide range of exposure to the various facets of intellectual property. Before commencing his legal career, Benjamin worked in laboratories at the University Washington, Children's Hospital in Seattle, and the Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute in Japan. Benjamin participated in research focusing on genetics and infectious diseases including identification of drug-resistance in HIV, development of multivalent animal vaccines, and genotypic identification of pathogenic yeast.
Benjamin authored the articles, “Key Points in International Patent Licensing”, International Intellectual Property Institute, Enforcement Studies and Quizzes, at www.iipi.org, “Gobbledygook or the Future of Obviousness in U.S. Patent Law Teleflex v.
